Trisha Paytas – Honest Internet Troll

Subject of much controversy and internet drama, Trisha Paytas is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. From her mukbang videos, chicken nuggets identification, now ASMR and Family vlog channel, there is one thing this creator does best – stay in the limelight over the years.

Trisha Paytas (born May 8, 1988) is an American YouTuber and singer. Paytas’s YouTube channel consists of a wide variety of content including lifestyle-oriented vlogsmusic videos, family vlogs, ASMR videos, ASMR podcast and mukbangs. As of July 2022, she has accumulated roughly 5 million subscribers and 1 billion lifetime views. Aditionally, Paytas has worked independently as a singer, releasing several records and singles, and appeared in television shows and films.

I don’t remember when and how I found out about her. Maybe it was the chicken nugget meme, maybe it was her singing videos but I would occasionally turn in to hate watch her. Until 2020/21 came along and we all had more time. I started to watch her a bit more and actually enjoy some of the content.

Her channel blndsundoll4mj, now glamourized glimpse into the internet star’s daily life, started as an Quentin Tarantino fan channel. After that she appeared multiple times on TV shows – Ellen, My strange addiction, Eminem’s music video.. the list goes one. But she is most known for her juicy & questionable YouTube videos, collaborations and later dramas.

Soon after announcing her engagement with Moses Hacmon, she gained traction again and started to cook at home. At first I watched the videos to laugh, wondering how a 32-year old never made a dish in her life (aside from the pasta with butter). Soon, she became a good enough cook and it was lovely to witness her growth and realisation of what she can do. I am truly proud and might even try some of her recipes now.

Her driving around Los Angeles and trying different fast-foods’ makes me realise how much less options we have in Europe. Her enthusiasm for food is unmatched and ironic since she doesn’t like any of the sauces & spices. Her lavish lifestyle is gaudy but I enjoy watching her design visions come to life. From making fun of Target, she now shops there for more than her clothes. Oh how the turn tables.

Honestly, I don’t know where she finds the energy to film as much as she does – there is literally at least one video a day on one of her channels. She made an internet persona of which the only consistent characteristic is change. One week she’s Bella Swan because she just watched Twilight, the other Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Holmes (yeah, the Theranos unicorn CEO who is now sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for her role in defrauding investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars! Bloody hell)

Yes, she goes all in!

Anyway anyhoo, Miss Paytas has always shown ingenuity and creativity although sometimes a bit less clever. From outing her ex-boyfriend, cultural disrespect, attacking minors, shading multiple content creators and starting beef, this girl lived on drama! What a brilliant troll. Her gender, race, diagnosis & religion change as the wind blows which can be super insensitive to people who don’t realise that is just a part of her content as an internet character. You prolly could get offended and angry, but she always said that. It is always an act, sometimes with tasteless humour.

She seems to have turned her life around since having her baby and speaks openly about her previous substance abuse problems, eating disorders, image issues, postpartum depression, broken hearts, existential crisis.

All I’m trying to say is – her coffee videos are like drinking coffee and chatting with your friend, mukbang videos are company for the days I’m eating alone, get-ready-with-me make you feel like a quick get-together with your flock. Not the best idol to have, but nice company sometimes 🙂
